You have all heard of acne, but what exactly is chin acne? As its name suggests, it is acne centralized on and around the chin area. They tend to fade soon after the menstruation cycle is over. Hormonal changes such as puberty will also cause pimples. How Do You Eliminate Chin Acne?
There are multiple things you can do to get rid of pimples on your chin. Although there is not much that can be done besides waiting it out when it comes to hormonal changes, there are some things you can do to lessen the severity of the outbreak.
1. Remove Makeup
Ladies, the golden rule is to always remove your makeup before you go to bed. A night out of intense partying is no excuse to fall asleep with a face full of chemicals. No matter what the packaging may advertise, makeup lessens the skin’s ability to breathe and release the sebum produced. The buildup of sebum without any release outlet, even for a night, will cause pimples. This is aggravated even more when you make it a habit to not wash off the day’s dirt and grime from your face before calling it a night. You should also avoid all oil-based and scented beauty products and opt for water-based or gel ones instead. Carefully read the labels to make an informed decision.
2. Avoid Touching Your Face
You will be surprised at how much bacteria is accumulated on your hands throughout the day. The last thing you want is to transfer the bacteria and dirt onto your sensitive skin. Although sometimes unconsciously touching your face is unavoidable, make it a habit to be more aware of what you do with your hands to prevent pimples. Consistently wash your hands after every meal and once you get home. Keeping a handy tube of hand sanitizer in your purse, pocket or car is also a good way to get rid of germs and bacteria on your hands. You should also stop resting your chin on your hands.
3. Change Your Diet
You are what you eat, and in this case, nothing else rings truer. Avoid oily and unhealthy foods like fried goodies, fast food and junk food. However, healthy oil-rich foods such as avocado, coconut, and salmon are perfectly fine. You should also watch your egg yolk intake. Do not consume more than three or four egg yolks a week. If you love eggs at breakfast, go for egg whites only. Increase foods that are rich in antioxidants like fresh vegetables, fruits such as blueberries, and green tea. Also remember to guzzle plain water as often as you can. Although water is not a cure-all solution for chin pimples, it will definitely help, as it thoroughly cleanses the skin of waste and an excess of sebum.
4. Wash Your Mouth
Something that many people fail to realize is how much oil and residue builds up around your mouth after a meal. Even if you are only having a salad, remember to wash your mouth with some mild soap and water when you are done. This will clean off any excess oil and food left around the area and aide you in your quest to lessen acne around your chin. You can also use baby or facial wipes to clean the area.
5. Ice the Area
When the going gets rough and you have an outbreak that you can do nothing about, do not exacerbate the pimples by toying with them. Ice the area to cool them down. You will notice a slight reduction in the swelling and redness. Icing the area will also make them look less obvious. Do this several times a day whenever possible. You should also try to stay out of the sun, especially in the afternoons, as the sweat and humidity will probably worsen the problem.
6. Apply a Soothing Mask
Besides using a proper oil-free skincare regime with a focus on busting acne, you can also help get rid of acne on your chin by combining the soothing effects of honey and lemon. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl and mix it with a teaspoon of honey. Slather the mixture over your skin and wash it off after 15 minutes. If you feel that the mask dries your skin rather than soothes, add more honey into the mix. You can also dip a cotton bud into this mixture and dab it onto the pimple for a more concentrated effect. The goal is to dry up the pimple without worsening it, and nothing is more effective than lemon juice.
7. Visit a Dermatologist
Sometimes you may need to get serious help to get rid of acne around your chin and mouth. The most effective way would be to see a dermatologist. Not only will a skin specialist be able to prescribe some effective medication, he or she may be able to tell you the underlying problem that causes the acne outbreak. This is especially true for those who are in their late twenties or older.
